(I did a history project on this in Y9. We got to do something from the 20th century; everyone else did, like, Marilyn Monroe, and I read a translation of Moi, Pierre Seel, déporté homosexuel and then did my project on that. Cheerful, no, but important to know about, yes.)

This is great, but it feels odd because all I can think is “Ellen Page is thin! Of course she’ll look good skating around a rink.” When Hollywood casts a woman who is not tiny or white skating around a rink dressed like a derby doll, I’ll think that change is happening.

Disturbing development at Twitter: countries will silence tweets

Here’s Twitter: “Until now, the only way we could take account of those countries’ limits was to remove content globally. Starting today, we give ourselves the ability to reactively withhold content from users in a specific country — while keeping it available in the rest of the world. We have also built in a way to communicate transparently to users when content is withheld, and why.” This is not a good thing.

Seriously you guys, sign a petition (I’ll post a link)! Would Arab Spring have happened if Twitter decided to selectively censor certain countries? This reeks of Colonialism to me.
